Fortnite Nintendo Switch Version Get New Updates, Increase Resolution and Frame-rate

When Fortnite rolled out for the Nintendo Switch in 2018, players were a little disappointed because of the many bugs and technical issues that hurt the gaming experience. Some of the things that are often felt lately are the problem of frame-rate and low resolution. This problem does not appear in docked mode, but it is felt by players who play Fortnite in handheld mode.

Fortnite Nintendo Switch Version Get New Updates, Increase Resolution and Frame-rate

The good news is that Epic Games as the developer has recently launched a new update that contains fixes for these problems. Epic claims that the update will significantly increase game resolution without having much impact on performance. Prior to the update, Fortnite was running at a resolution of 1000 x 560 (handheld) and 1390 x 780 (docked). Now after the update, Fortnite can run at a resolution of 1170 x 660 (handheld) and 1560 x 880 (docked).

Apart from the higher resolution, Epic said that the update also increased the frame-rate to be more consistent while reducing the total size of Fortnite by 140MB. Epic itself doesn't explain the technicalities in its official post, but they attribute the improvement to a rendering process that makes better use of the GPU Switch.

This is not the first time Fortnite has received updates related to performance improvements. Last year on a different platform, "Performance Mode" was launched for the PC version of Fortnite. Instead of making the visuals more beautiful, Performance Mode offers a frame-rate increase by running Fortnite at the lowest visuals. Epic sees this as a way to attract more players, especially those with low-spec PCs.

Apart from the Nintendo Switch, Fortnite is currently also available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S and PC.
