Sony is reportedly working on The Last of Us Remake and rejects submissions for Days Gone 2
Following the successful release of the PS5, Sony is currently reportedly working on a number of new projects. Some of them are The Last of Us remake which is reportedly being actively developed. However, despite its success, Sony is also reportedly facing a number of internal problems that have caused various problems in the work on The Last of Us remake until it was rejected for Days Gone 2.
According to a Bloomberg report, the development of The Last of Us remake, codename T1X, had already begun work before the release of The Last of Us Part II. At that time, the project was undertaken by Michael Mumbauer, founder of the Visual Arts Service Group, which is a support division to help develop a number of Sony games such as Marvel's Spider-Man and Uncharted.
Initially, Mumbauer intended to develop a remake of the first Uncharted. However, after some consideration, the project was canceled because it was deemed too difficult and would cost a lot of money. Finally, Mumbauer also formed a group of developers to work on The Last of Us Remake.
Unfortunately, before the game was finished, Sony was reluctant to provide financial assistance which made its developers leave the project, including Mumbauer. This made work on the game delayed until several active developers were transferred to Naughty Dog to help develop The Last of Us Part II.
Currently, the development of The Last of Us remake is reportedly resuming without Mumbauer. Along with the Multiplayer mode from The Last of Us Part II which is planned to be released on a standalone basis.
However, it seems the problem doesn't stop there. Studio named Bend, who is known as the developer of Days Gone, had proposed the development of Days Gone 2 in 2019. However, Sony rejected the proposal on the grounds that Days Gone received an unsatisfactory reception. Until the development had to be canceled.
Because of this, some staff from Bend Studio were disappointed that many chose to leave Sony. Now, Bend Studio is rumored to be developing a new game. However, at this time the studio has not provided any information regarding the newest game. Several developers from Bend Studio have also moved to Naughty Dog to help develop the Multiplayer mode for The Last of Us Part II.
Despite all the problems, Sony remains one of the leading video game companies alongside Microsoft and Nintendo. This is proven by the success of the launch of the PS5 console, which is still in the best selling ranking compared to the Xbox Series X / S. Especially now that Sony is also expanding the game's popularity by elevating it into films and TV series such as Uncharted, The Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima.
